Philodendron Pink Princess is a semi-climbing aroid known for its dark foliage and distinctive pink variegation. It is one of the most recognizable variegated Philodendrons, but can be challenging to grow consistently.

We have been growing Pink Princess for over 2 years, with quite a few ups and downs along the way.
🌱 Root development
Organic mix - performs reasonably well, but root development is not particularly extensive.
Zeolite mix - similar results. The substrate provides plenty of air, but if it starts drying out, the fine roots can die quickly and the plant has to restart its root development.
Mineral mix - the combination of an airy mineral substrate and constant access to water through a wick from the reservoir has produced the best root development so far.
💧 Watering
This plant seems to dislike both constantly wet and overly dry conditions. The goal is finding a balance between moisture and oxygen around its fine roots.

🧬 Our conclusion
Pink Princess is a sensitive but fascinating plant. Its fine roots seem to need a careful balance between moisture and aeration, with our mineral semi-hydro setup currently performing best.
It is also more sensitive to strong light, overwatering and pests than many Philodendrons.
We are still testing it, but so far the results are promising.
