Philodendron Red Emerald is a climbing philodendron known for its deep green foliage and dark red tones on the stems and petioles. Despite being common, it can develop into a remarkably impressive plant when given the right conditions.

We have been growing Red Emerald for over 1 year, testing it in organic and zeolite-based substrates.
🌱 Root development
Organic mix - very strong root development and reliable establishment. It grows well in regular commercial soil too, but we noticed that dense, constantly wet substrate can lead to root rot.
Zeolite mix - also performs very well, with strong rooting after the initial establishment period.
Mineral mix - not tested yet.
💧 Watering
Organic substrate was watered based on actual moisture, using a soil moisture meter.
Zeolite and mineral substrate received a fresh nutrient solution approximately every 3 days.

🧬Our conclusion
Red Emerald is one of the easiest and most resilient plants we have grown. It roots aggressively, tolerates different substrates and generally has little pest pressure.
Our biggest lesson is simple: don't keep it constantly wet. It seems to appreciate letting the substrate dry slightly more before watering again.
Despite being common, we think it is a stunning and seriously underrated Philodendron.
